Retribution is set in Cleveland, Ohio during the summer of 1939. War is brewing in Europe and the in the US the mob wars spawned by Prohibition have finally ended. Cleveland is sweltering through a record heat wave. Mark "Mose" Mosely is an enforcer for Big Mike Tolliver who runs one of Cleveland's mob families. The families are all on edge because Eliott Ness has relocated from Chicago to clean up Cleveland.

In the midst of all this tension, a hit goes down outside a safe house Mose is guarding. It is unclear if the target of the hit, was Tolliver, his mistress, Nancy, or Mose himself. Mose must discover who ordered the hit and bring retribution before an all-out war breaks out between the Cleveland families.

To complicate matters, Nancy says she is in love with Mose. Will he be able to stay alive long enough to stop the coming war?

Most people do not realize that northeast Ohio was a hotbed of mob activity for decades. We lived in Warren, Ohio for just about a year. At the age of five, I was in a street gang, was used to shoplift (no one was going to hold a cute five-year-old accountable if I got caught) and actually fought against another gang in our neighborhood. I don't remember, but my dad told me when I was a teen, that there were two car bombings on our street within a few months. We moved out of the city and into the country before I finished kindergarten.
